Keep Dreaming

The Lord was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. And his master saw the Lord was with him and that the Lord made all he did to prosper in his hands. So Joseph found favor in his sight and served him then he made him overseer of his house and all that he had put under his authority. (Genesis 39:2-4 NKJV)

And Joseph’s master took him and put him into prison, a place where the king prisoners were confined. But The Lord was with Joseph and showed him mercy and he gave him favor in the sight of the keeper of the prison; and the keeper of the Prison committed to Joseph’s hand all the prisoners who were in the prison. (Genesis 39:20 – 21)

The story of Joseph is like that of a helpless seed. When a seed is blown off by the wind: it lands in unfamiliar land environment. Sitting on the ground that seeds could not avoid feeling lost, bored, abandoned, mistreated, home sick for it separation from the mother tree. For you can imagine a little helpless seed sitting on bear ground with the scorching sun.

When heavy torrent pours on the ground, the seed is perhaps moved to a different location and It struggles with mud, run off and cold weather. But after sometime the seed that had moved against all odds and gone through all forms of setbacks with all manner of challenges produces roots that anchor on the ground and produce little leaves, stems, branches, and finally comes a strong tree that is not easily moved by wind.

In Genesis chapter 37 -50 we read the story of a small lad called Joseph who got in to a lot of trouble for dreaming. He got into trouble with his parent leave a lone his brothers.

… and his father rebuked him and said to him;

“What is this dream that you have dreamed? Shall your mother and I and yours brothers indeed bow down to the earth before you? “(Genesis 37:10 NKJV)

The world is very hostile and unkind to anyone who has a dream that he or she is pursuing in life. If your life is driven by dream and purpose planted in you by the Almighty God, you become an easy target of the devil. Anyone with a dream, purpose and mission in this life is like a sheep among wolves. Joseph got in to trouble in Dothan. One day his father Jacob had sent him to go visit his brothers where they were looking after the flock.

When his eleven brothers saw him they plotted to kill him. Then they said to each other, look the dreamer is coming! Their hearts and motives were full and driven by envy, jealousy, hatred, you name it. He was put into the pit and later Judah convinced them to sell him to the caravan of Ishmaelite coming from Gilead going down to Egypt.

Any dream that comes or originates from Almighty God does not and will never die. There are no people no circumstance, hindrance, environment or setback that can dampen or stop a dream that is from God. There is no desert torrents, runoff, wasted land that the dream from God will not withstand. Like the seed in the story, they will not die but will take roots and grow. God given dreams will not be silenced by man or any other circumstance.

Although Nelson Mandela languished in Ruben Island prison for 27 years: he later came out of prison and there after the walls of apartheid came Tumbling down. He physically grew old in prison but his spirit and resolve was getting stronger and renewed day by day.

In 2009 I had an experience of visiting South Africa and one of my objective was to visit and tour Ruben Island prison. Unfortunately I could not get to the Island because of the heavy booking by visitors from all over the world. I was advised to book to visit the prison one year in advance to be assured of the opportunity to visit the place. I was frustrated but I resolved to stay and hang out around the Nelson Mandela gate for the whole day in Cape town meditating, contemplating and enlarging my mind and in prayer concerning my mission in life and the dream the Lord has put in my heart. It was such a solemn moment for me. It was the time to re script my dream, mission and purpose in life. The experience gave me very fresh energy. I was never the same again.

I remember in 2006 I spend one day hanging out in martin Luther king Museum in Atlanta Georgia USA before leaving for Kenya to establish Kenya Connection Ministries International ministry. It was a moment to meditation, Soul searching and enlarging mind concerning the task of the ministry and service the Lord had put in my heart.

The favour and mercy of God was with Joseph whenever he went. In Egypt he was sold to Potiphar’s where he became in charge of Potiphar’s house. While he was working for Potiphar he was tempted by Potiphar’s wife to lie in bed with her. He overcame the temptation but Potiphar’s wife lied that he raped her. Joseph was put in prison big time. The Lord had blessed Joseph with a very positive mind and attitude. He harbored no bitterness against all who put him in trouble.

He always had a very proactive mind. In Potiphar’s house he was in charge of the house. In prison he was the head of all prisoners (President) and was given the duty to assign them dairy tasks. He never focused on what was not working but always focused on what good was possible for the moment. All this happened because the Spirit of God was in him.

It is God who gives us positive mind and imagination in the midst of setback and challenges in life. Even at difficult time the word of God reminds us that he is in charge and that he will rescue us and victory will be ours. His Holy word is a great encouragement to us.

“Oh that you would led the heavens and come down. As the fire kindles the bush wood as the fire causes water to boil, make thy name known to thy adversaries. That the natures tremble in your presence.” (Isaiah 64:1 NAV)

When we pray and trust God at the time of trouble he will intervene and overcome for us. He did it for Martin Luther King when he led the American nation to fight against segregation of people by their race and color. Positive imagination and godly consciousness is great gift from God. The call of God is to trust Him for better things ahead. Life may have taken us through bad and very negative experience; but in the book of Isaiah the word of God exhorts us not to dwell on the former things.

Do not call to mind the former things —- I will do something new (Isaiah 44:18-19 NAV)

I have lots and lots of experience of God supplying to my needs, getting me out of cross roads and trouble and using me to accomplish a task for Him. Like Joseph let us keep dreaming and interpreting dreams. Each one of us can pray and trust God to pursue relentlessly the dream the, mission and purpose the Lord has given us to accomplish in this world .

None of us is too weak, too old, to accomplish something for our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. We are not photocopies of any one in the world. We are originals and therefore each one has a unique mission, ministry and purpose whichever name you call it. Setbacks and trouble will come but in Christ we are more than conquerors. The Almighty God will give us Victory.
