Service – Doing Business With God

“Cast your bread upon the water, for you will find it after many days. Give a service to seven, and also to eight for you do not know what evil will be on Earth” Ecclesiastes 11: 1-12

The word of God encourages and urges us to be generous to as many people as possible. Give a serving to seven and eight. Our Lord has entrusted us with talents, gifts, strengths and resources. The reason why He has given us all this is so that we can share with his people especially the needy.” Let us cast our bread upon the waters”, for that is a call from God to venture individually in serving and supplying to the needs of others. That’s Gods’ way of doing business, for by doing so you gain. To the human eyes it looks like a risk but in God’s perspective it is a sure investment. It’s the way to reap blessings from God. Someone said “You will always have everything in life that you want if you help enough other people get what they want.”

Last Christmas we were overwhelmed with gifts to hundreds of children given by sponsors from Mars Hill church, East minister Presbyterian Church and other sponsors from the State. These gifts were beside the $30 they send every month to provide to cater for the basic needs of the children.

When children received the gift of clothes, shoes, Christmas food, toys, letters and cards they radiated joy expressed with broad smiles and excitement. Giving to the poor orphaned children and the windows is doing business with God.

Selfishness will lead to self-destruction. Someone once said, “When you package yourself with yourself you will be a small minute package.” Package yourself with other people, think, consider their interest not only your own.

“Let nothing be done through selfish ambitions or content, but with lowliness of mind. Let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his interest but also for the interest of others. Philippians 2:3-4

Human beings are naturally conditioned to look into their own interests first. The word of God gives us a different paradigm and hence there has to be a paradigm shift. The change is to look out for the interest of others first. Esteem others better than yourself and look for their interest. I am what I am today because people have helped me out. When I miraculously made it to the States in 2001 in pursuit of God’s calling for my life. I fell in the hands of people who helped me to get the best out of me. They loved me, supplied to all my needs, invited me in their homes, educated me, encouraged me, trusted me, cared for my family back in Kenya and now sponsoring hundreds of Kids. Do you have people who have impacted your life, ministry, family, Faith and work positively?

Let us learn to tame the human tendency of self-promotion. That is only possible if we let the mind that was in Christ be in us. Christ emptied himself and accepted to be hanged and die on the cross for our sins. It is time to serve God without caring who will get the credit. It is time to take stock of our lives.

One of my resolutions this year is to change some of my close friends and associates. The reason why I do this is so that I can have plenty of opportunity to meet more and regularly with men and women of Faith and people who will influence me to be a better person. People who will help me get the best out of me. These are people who can inspire and stir up talents and gifts deposited in us by God.

In the 11 years of working and serving the poor, disfranchised, vulnerable children in Kenya, we have seen a lot of changes in their values, attitudes, aspirations and their destinies. This kind of change has occurred for their good. This has come about as a result of deliberately surrounding these children with people who will love, encourage, motivate and inspire them to get the best out these children.

We have been deliberate in destroying and poking holes into the negative attitude and values these kids had acquired from negative thinking expert, and replacing that with positive attitude and values. Our message has been- God loves you, we love you, people care about you, you can make, it is possible for the Lord is on your side.

Our line will be given direction by our closest associates and friends. These people in most cases shape our agenda and indicate the direction we go. Let us stir each other to good works, works of faith and service to our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
