It is worth meeting Ellyjoy “Mom.” Ellyjoy was born in 1972 in Kiamuriki Village of Meru South district. She grew up in a family of 7 children. Ellyjoy is the first born in the home. She grew up among a bunch of many boys. She helped her mother in the kitchen work and grave cows and goats in the Mt.Kenya forest. The grazing of cows and goats was spectacular to her for in the jungle together with her peers they made a swing from huge clippers where they would swing and climb trees as the livestock feed. As she drove cattle home, she would bring firewood to her mother.
Ellyjoy joined Kiamuriuki Primary School in 1978-1987. She proceeded to Njuri secondary school in 1987-1993. She is a trained hair dresser and beautician. She has a diploma in Community development. Ellyjoy has undergone training by organizations like save the children Canada, WOFBI and SOS .She is fully equipped on the basic skills to work with children and the suffering in the community. Born and raised in a Christian family, Ellyjoy was introduced to Sunday school by her mother when she was young. As she grew up she did catechism and was baptized and confirmed in the Presbyterian Church as a full church member. In 2000, Ellyjoy got born again. In her salon business she became friends with Christian women. I desired their lives they were so peaceful. “I desired their Jesus. They influenced me to rededicate my life to Christ .Their lives were a living testimony” said Ellyjoy. She then joined Winners chapel at Meru town where she became a very active member. She was the leader of the church ushering team, a member of women’s prayer group and was a member of the women of the church choir. Ellyjoy learned of K.C.K home through Margaret (magi) a friend of hers who works at S.O.S children’s home. I got the advertisement and applied to work at K.C.K home. I did the interview and praise God I passed “Said Ellyjoy.
Out of the 18 ladies who had applied to be mother to the home Ellyjoy had the best qualification and she passed. She has good understanding of the work for she has undergone training by S.O.S children. SOS is an international children organization and has homes all over the world. Ellyjoy missed a job by then by inches. We at K.C.K thank God that she missed a job then so that she would come and work with K.C.K children’s home. Ellyjoy is a great athlete and a mother of one child. She is a woman to work with. Her daughter is in college pursuing a Diploma in Law. One day, Ellyjoy had an appointment to take Brenda Makena for an appointment at Kenyatta National hospital, while she was at Nairobi downtown, the public transport went on strike. This gallant woman walked carrying a big stick to Kenyatta National Hospital and by 6:30 in the morning; they were there ready for an appointment. At 4:00 in the afternoon is when I had this call from my phone. ”Dad the matatus are on strike today, I woke up at 5:00 in the morning and by 6:30 we were at the hospital, I did not bother you, we have already seen the doctor and we will be coming home tomorrow,” Said Ellyjoy. That action summarized Ellyjoy the mother to 17 K.C.K children. You can agree with me and the entire board in Kenya that the children are blessed to have a mother like Ellyjoy.
The mother strives to turn the house into a warm loving and secure home for the kids. She provides a warm non-threatening atmosphere conducive for the growth of children. The mother as a leader of the household ensures the wellbeing of each child and performs detailed household task.
“I love children. I do this as a calling from God as his part of service, ministry and evangelism to me. This is more than a job to me. What motivates me is my love and service for God,” said Ellyjoy. “I want the future of my children to be bright. I pray that some of these children will be doctors, pilots, teachers, lawyers politicians congressmen, government senators, Engineers, you name anything good to them. Above all I pray that they will love God with all their heart, soul, and mind and love other people the way God has used people to love them,” said Ellyjoy.
